Recently, Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh has expressed deep dissatisfaction over the current research status in India and has asked scientists to come up with novel ideas and concepts. What we can do to improve science in India

Well Mr. Singh has disappointed me, as he is a dummy PM. Well coming to the point no politician is going to help. We as ambassadors of our generation have to do something.
1. Contact your local Indian consulate and ask if you can volunteer for something.
2. Advertise in you local Indian radio's that people who are new they can contact you for your help.
3. Start initiatives like Abhay websites, blogs etc.
4. Make a network of like minded people so collectively we can do something.

Sorry, I got away from topic. I will be posting more shortly and that will be realted to this topic.

Cheers

hi,

our reach should focus on the output that should play a role in peoples daily life n save our people from various suffering.. n it shouldnt focus on publication only..

more fund should b given for the ph.d n pdf students in India... so that most of our student will do thier research in India itself..

funding is the main problem..

we should ask our PM and President APJ to allot more funds towards reach in Science in india.. atleast 50% which is alloted for defence...

we have to increase the quality of the basic education in Schools..

there shouldnt any politics bet researchers

i think we firstly marketize the benefits of biotechnology in between the indian peoples because still lots of people don know what it is and what its benifits and do NEED MARKETING FIRSTLY.

second problem, which is funding then for it we have to attract and ensure more and more venture capitilist and enterprenures that really biotech can refund them with profit.
MORE OTHER HURDELS R THERE LIKE
TO GIVE EMPLOYMENT MORE AND MORE GRADUATES IN BIOTECH COMPONIES ,SO THAT GENERAL PEOPLES NO MORE THINK IT AS A FIELD OF RESEARCH ONLY ,HERE IS LOTS OF WORK TO DO FOR EVERY ONE AND WE HAVE TO SHOW IT NOT BY WRITE AND SAY ,BUT BY OUR WORKS.

Since India is still a developing country, it is not able to concentrate on research fields & for the same reason students also wish to go for a job after a UG or PG.The scholarships provided for research activities are not up to the mark.
There are few takers for Biology & other Science subjects since the IT field offers a lucrative salary and a sure job(almost) after a B.E degree.
So if we do something to improve the number of job oppurtunities & the pay package,if possible the scholarship amount,
there will be more people getting into this field.Once there are more brains into a field and when there is coordination of great brians, new inventions becomes inevitable.

I am quite agreed with the comments shared by otheres.
If you want to improve the level of research in India, you need to do the following things:
1. Improve the infrastructure of the present Research labs at India
2.The fellowship that student gets during research work is scanty(JRF=8000p.m., SRF=9000p.m.)How can you expect a expect from a student that is bright enough to make good money in other fields, to enter this field, without increasing the fellowships??
If a student devotes 16-18 hours a day for 7 days a week on research, I think he is practically devoting everything that he has. Even after that he is unable to lead a happy and respectable life.
3. Even the scientists at India are paid poorly(Rs.24000 consolidated for Sci C)so after finishing research work it is better for an young scientist to join a company and end up with a life of luxuries. When our own poloticians are driven by luxuries , how can one expects from a hard working scientist to refrain fom these?
4. I agree that India is a devolping country, yet she is spending Rs 300 crore on single jet aircraft, why can it not spend Rs. 50 crores on single 900 Mhz NMR or Rs 150 crores on BSL III..I think when you compare the defence budget with that of research budget, you will be surprised to see the difference.

We do a lot efforts on recent happening forgetting the past!
I feel instead of bringing in novelties overloaded, Indian scientist can improve the application segment of their research work, where by can create revenue for them as well as nation. But i feel we are poor in those aspects. When we see something new our approach is to try it, concentrate on it, research on it, document it and forget it.
